Group A - Rally wolves in sheep's clothing
After the fatal accidents of 1986 that ended Group B in rallying, 1987 was a fresh start. Group A - modified road cars with a minimum production quantity of 5,000 - became the sport's top class. Lancia was the measure of all things with the Delta for many years until Toyota caught up to them. Later, with Mitsubishi, Ford and Subaru, three other manufacturers competed for the crown and developed all-wheel-drive, turbo-charged special editions of the rather tame road cars to have the right basis for the rally version.
McKlein's new Group A book tells the history of the sport from 1987-1996. It gives an overview of the key events, the leading cars and drivers, the factory teams, the rulebook changes - both technical and sporting - as well as the results. In addition, author John Davenport tells many stories about the events of that time. The book is illustrated with many - often unseen - photos from the McKlein archive.
