A film by Helmut Deimel 1980 is the year of Walter Röhrl. With co-pilot Christian Geistdörfer at his side, he flies from success to success: The season ends with four wins, two second places and one fifth place - and the world championship title. Right at the start of the season, "the tall one" fulfills a lifelong dream. He wins the legendary Monte Carlo Rally. Röhrl and Geistdörfer also remain unbeatable in Portugal, Argentina and Sanremo.

It's a good time with Fiat. After rather humble beginnings, Bayern now feel at home with the Italians. The Fiat team offers the nest warmth that a top driver like Röhrl needs to achieve top performance. After all, there was no shortage of strong opponents in 1980 - nine works teams alone started.

The film shows the highlights from all twelve World Championship races in this special year, 1980, the last before the all-wheel drive revolution. Of course, the focus is always on the German Fiat drivers - and just as enthralling as the breathtaking action of the rear skids is the way in which Walter comments on his world champion performance.
